Jesse Schell Video

Jesse Schell’s speaks of how everything in today’s world has been and could be turned into the function of a game or a point system. Reward systems are created for any piece of technology and in the labor system. The reward systems are supposed to encourage people to get things they normally could have done, but are more encouraged to do so because they want to “unlock more achievements.“ For example, Schell mentions that you can get points for brushing your teeth, and the points depend on the length you brush your teeth. Schell goes on to say that these incentives will encourage us to get work done faster for craving “points.”

The idea of everything being a an incentive to get things done “quicker” is definitely ridiculous. The idea of daily movements and tasks being turned into a point system motivates people to actually complete their tasks and/or their agendas. For example, the getting points for brushing your teeth sounds idiotic–– anyone can brush their teeth. No points needed for that, really. The only way to efficiently be able to sell a product that gives you rewards is by increasing its price, allowing markets and businesses to increase in profits.
