For my final project I am going to make an umbrella that
lights up when it is spun. For practicality the LEDs will reside underneath the
fabric and not inside of it. This way if the umbrella is used to block rain the
LEDs will be protected by the waterproof material. The LEDs will be placed
along the metal framework of the umbrella so as to not have to sew them into
the fabric, compromising its usability.

The function
of this object is twofold. Firstly as a work of art, taking a mundane everyday
object and turning it into a work of art is my main goal. Everyone uses
umbrellas, however people rarely see them as a source of beauty and joy. Rainy
days also tend to make people sad, and little lights could brighten their day.

My second
goal is to make an umbrella that also lights up. If you are a pedestrian
walking in the rain at night with your umbrella you have very little visibility.
Car drivers cannot see well in the rain. However if your umbrella lit up they could
see you very clearly. It would also light up the users pathway quite well.

Questions, 1. How to apply the LEDs to the metal framework
2. Should I use a PIR or tilt sensor.
3. How many LEDs should I use
