Final Project Proposal

Final
Proposal
For the final project I would like to work on a piece
that utilizes the Arduino, buzzers, and digital touch sensors that functions
similar to an instrument. The piece will be a wearable that has a 3d printed harness
to keep the components in place and allow the user to wear the piece on their
arm. The harness itself will be able to be put on and removed easily using
straps that loop through rings made at the bottom of the harness that can be
adjusted for different arms. Four touch sensors would be used to trigger sounds
from the buzzers and light up a neo pixel and a fifth sensor will be placed to
allow the user to change pitches. Additionally there will be a neopixel ring
that changes color based on what pitches it is set to.

My reasoning for wanting to create the piece is that I
have had a strong desire to make a wearable that was functional. The musical
aspect of the piece comes from my love of music and my desire to incorporate it
into my art in some way. This concept has evolved from having the work respond
to music around it to having it produce sound in some way. I also want there to
be a visual indication that the piece is functioning, this comes in the form of
the neo pixels lighting up as the corresponding buzzer plays its tone. The idea
3d printed harness stems from the difficulty that came from trying to sew
conductive thread and keeping the piece operable. I believe that a custom made
harness would allow for more versatility and would eliminate the need for any
sewing.
Questions
  1. In the proposal I mentioned 3d printing the harness but what other methods could I use to make the harness?
  2. What methods could I use to keep the different pieces in place?
  3. Are there alternatives to using the touch sensors that I should consider?
