Final Project

The idea I had for this project is a beanie (hat) that displays text from a liquid crystal LCD embedded in the cloth. I’d like for the text to change when people come close to me. I’ll be honest and say I’m not sure what kind of sensor you need for that. I do know that I’ll need an arduino, an LCD, a computer, a beanie, and a battery. The battery I’d like to use is still in question and I intend to ask for advice on that.
Since we’re being asked to follow a sort of consistent pattern in our work, I decided to do a wearable. This project is simply meant for aesthetic purposes as is most of my art. My idea is to have the text represent the feelings I usually have when people come close to me. I’m a bit antisocial so it’s usually along the lines of please go away. For this particular project, I’d like for the text to be “Don’t Like” (with a question mark if possible)  from a distance and “Don’t Look” up close.
I’m not sure whether or not people would wear these if they were available in large amounts but I figure they’d be popular enough with people who know how to program. Seeing as you can add your own text if you’d like, it might be profitable to produce. However, for right now it goes well with my concept as an artist. The majority of my work is wearable due to a possibly destructive obsession with clothes/fashion. My works outside of new media often include sarcastic or depressive text.

When I get feedback, I’d like to know a few things. For one, would anyone actually buy this if it were available? What kind of battery do they think is necessary to make this work well? And should I try for a larger/more advanced LCD sometime? I feel like the size of the LCD might affect the whole performance aspect of this idea. If the text is too small, the point of having it change at different proximities would be mute.
