LED Glove – Cody Colgren, Ivan Martinez

A interactive LED glove by Cody C and Ivan M.

Materials needed:

  1.  Glove (preferably not a fuzzy winter one)
  2. 4 LED lights
  3. Sheet of copper fabric
  4. Super Glue
  5. Scissors
  6. Tape
  7. Two small lithium batteries (3V)
  8. Battery encloser

Step 1: Make sure the glove is suitable for it being super glued and worked on.

  • It is important to find a glove that is easy to work on and doesn’t stretch like a pair of winter gloves for example.

Step 2: Super Glue the battery enclosure to the inside of the glove.

  • Make sure the battery enclosure is at a spot where it’s not too awkward to put your hand in the glove.
  • It is important to remember what side the red and black wire are on. For this glove the red wire was on back and the black was in front.

Step 3: Cut a piece of the copper fabric with scissors for the back of the thumb.

  • When the piece is cut for the thumb make sure to super glue it.
  • Once the first piece is glued on make sure to put the red wire on top of it, then make a new piece of fabric to cover the wire and connect to the bottom fabric.
  • Tape or super glue the red wire onto the glove so it doesn’t move around too much, you don’t want the end of the wire to get lose from the copper fabric.

Step 4: Put the black wire on the front of the glove.

  • Tape or super glue the black wire onto the front of the glove.
  • Cut out a line of copper fabric and super glue it underneath the knuckles, and make sure that the tip of the wire is on the fabric.
  • Cut out a small line of copper fabric and super glue it above the tip of the wire and connect it the other longer line of copper fabric.

Step 5: Working on the fingers.

  • To make the fingers cut out a line of copper fabric that goes from slightly above the knuckle to all the way to the other side on the back of the finger. This is to connect the fabric on the back of the finger to the fabric on the back of the thumb.
  • Take on of the LED lights and place it in between the line just made on the finger and the other line below the knuckle.
  • Cut two small rectangles and super glue them onto one of the legs of the LED and the closer fabric line to make a connect.
  • When you touch that finger with the thumb of the glove the LED should light up, if not make sure that the LED is properly connecting the two lines of fabric together.
  • Repeat for the other remaining fingers.

  • Watch the video to see it in motion, pictures don’t do it enough justice!
