Digital Media and Contemporary Art

Games have a place in contemporary art. Contemporary art is art developed after the 1960’s and is still emerging. It is seen as art that defies traditional boundaries. Therefore, games can very well be under contemporary art seeing as there is a growing population of them and they continue to emerge.

Today, many people are into games whether they’re video games or mobile games. It does not matter what age one is, in today’s era, there are games targeted for everyone. In the olden days, art was on canvases. However, in the contemporary era, people are allowed to interact with the artwork.

Personally, at one point, mobile games worsened my life. I got addicted to a mobile game and would spend all my time on it. In “Our Tech Nightmare”, the presenter talked about how people are motivated to do things that involve a game system. In the game I played, you had to move up ranks so I spent weeks desperately trying to move up. The game had specific amount of energy one could use so I’d find cheats or even set alarms to wake up when my energy refilled. Therefore, the game got too addicting I had to stop before it took over more of my time.
