Broken White Project:

this project uses a certain kind of ceramic that reacts to being used. as someone eats and cuts their food and so on the plates design begins to change, new patterns will begin to emerge and so on. I feel that this project shows off the principles of “reflect” and “reveal”. on the one hand it shows “reflect” because it induces contemplation about the object. it makes one think about something that you normally would think about that our favorite plate or cup could be affected by us using them so much. in this same way, this project shows “reveal” because it shows off an experience that one would overlook in everyday life, you wouldn’t really care about what happens to a plate or cup after using it but this project forces you to see the changes you are making.

Edible Estates Project:

California artist looking for Twin Cities suburban lawn to ...

this project focuses on making your own lawn a personal garden for the home, instead of just having a normal lawn, one can plant their own vegetables and other such crops all over their property so that they can be self-sufficient in a way. the project reflects the principle of “evolve” because the project can always grow so long as people decide to keep planting and growing, and with the other principle of “engage” it can always get people to be involved because anyone can do it. they have a great website which I have linked above and it explains everything you need to make your own edible estate.

Fantasy Project:

In my Fantasy project, it will focus on the two slow design principles of “engage” and “reflect”. The idea of my project actually stems from my interactive assignment/ final project but in a large scale setting. the idea is to create a world for trash. we throw out and litter so much in a day, but what happens to all that junk that escapes the trash and is left in the streets. in my project they actually end up in their own ecosystem where they can evolve and talk with each other, they become their own organisms. the trash is able to communicate through led lights the same as a firefly. the trash is sound reactive similar to the toys in toy story, as people begin to appear and there is too much noise for them they shut down in a way so that people don’t disturb them.

my project follows the principle of “engage because as people are walking around the ecosystem they can control how active the trash is. if they decide to have them not active at all then they must be loud but if they want to watch the interactions then all they have to do is stay as quiet as possible. in this larger-scale project, the trash could even move so that they move away from the noise, so that is one way of maybe forcing the garbage to move around if they so choose.

secondly, the project deals with the principle of  “reflect” because personally, I begin to wonder about other such inanimate objects that I just use and throw away. if the trash can become an organism and have their own way of thinking and communicating then what else has that capability. maybe they already do and in this same fashion, they just choose not to let us see it. it also makes one wonder as to what does happen to a lot of the items that we use in our everyday lives, maybe that coffee cup from Starbucks fell out of the can and rolled down the street to an ecosystem of garbage.
