The IVY external hard drive is a new drive that is being created that will manipulate it’s “skin look” based on the content that is stored on it. The look is abstract and seems to be based off of shapes and colors, but is said to constantly be changing with the data that you put on and take off. The idea is that no two would look the same, unless you had exactly the same data in the same way on both. This makes the IVY instantly a custom drive based off of your content. I think this idea is cool and would be a fun feature to have on my external hard drive, but it really doesn’t help or hurt anything as far as storage. If anything, it might just make the drive run slower. Personally, I don’t think many people will want to buy a storage device just because it does a cool trick, when they could get the same amount of space for probably a lot cheaper. Either way, I think it is a cool idea and a really neat invention.
