Affective Diary

This piece is called the “Affective Diary.” This diary uses sensor data (such as movement, skin temp., galvanic skin response, and pulse) which is uploaded through one’s mobile phone.
This “biodata” is then used to create abstract, colorful shapes. These different colors and shaped represent different movements, moods, and feelings. Then, the user can reflect on the images, and uses these various images to piece their story together.
I never really used diaries or journals, but this is interesting even to those of us who are non-diary users. The fact that the diary captures physical, bodily aspects is more of a reason to use a diary now! There are times in journal/diary writing when our perspective on our current emotional or mental state might not be captured in words. But with this kind of technology we could get an accurate, objective reading of our emotional or mental state at that moment. I like the idea of being able to compare and reflect our writing as well as on sensory data captured in the heat of the moment. I also love adding the visual elements created by our very own bodily responses.
