New media art; 2nd blog post

The most interesting thing about this article to me is the way the author makes connections to past interactive arts such as zoetropes and praxinoscopes from the 19th century. Drawing links in art and history is one of the most fascinating parts about being an art history major. The author also draws connections to fluxes happening and interactive art, These connections between past and present are what keep art moving forward in new ways but still recognizing the past.
I looked up Mark Hansen and Ben Rubins listening post because it really caught my eye how the author wrote that some people described it as near religious or meditative. I have had my own experiences with art works being that way, and thats another thing that really attracts me to certain works of art. And the Listening Post, even just watching the youtube video of it and it was captivating.  “Listening Post allows us to experience the totality of technology and Internet communication in a
simultaneously immersive and humanizing way.” this is probably the best way this art work could have been described.
I guess the real question with this piece is did it qualify as interactive art, and should they have won the prize for the Ars electronica festival. the categorization of interactive art did qualify it as interactive art by three characteristics. This created an expanded definition of what interactive art is.
