Response to Casey Reas video
Casey Reas creates art by using software and programs. He would create the code for the program to generate elaborate conceptual images. He focuses on both order and noise in order to generate art that looks continuous. In many of his projects he would focus on structure and the paths his elements would take in order to generate an image. He would also work with photographs in the same way and transform them into a new translation of the original images. Another topic Reas talks about is order and chaos and its impact and involvement in art. I thought this was interesting because order and chaos together is something that not everyone thinks about or expects to work together to produce art. He shows us starting from a simple code and using a virtual coin flip to generate patterns. I found this really interesting because with such a simple line of code, he generated a strange maze-like pattern. With a different short line of code he would change the structure of the image and its pattern. I think that what Reas and other artists like him bring to the world of art is a different way to look at the natural world. By generating images through programs and software, we see something that could not have been, or difficult otherwise, created in a traditional sense.
