A Software That Changed the Way I Think, See, or Understand the World
Mackenzie Carlson
A software that I can say (somewhat embarrassedly) changed the way I view the world would have to be Stardew Valley. I’m not much of a gamer myself, but I have never gotten into a single thing more than I got into Stardew Valley when I first started playing it. It’s a simple game that uses simple code, operating under the premise that your grandfather left you his farm to take over and revive after his passing.
This game changed my perceptions with its bright colors, simple tasks and lifestyle, and surprisingly in-depth character development. The game uses mostly C# programming, rather than C++ like many believed. Before throwing myself into this world, I didn’t really see the appeal of an agricultural lifestyle. While I know that a realistic version of this game would be much, much more difficult to actually carry out than anyone playing Stardew Valley might be lead to believe, I also do find a sustainable- most likely socialist- little farming community that I live in with all of my friends a much better retirement idea than anything else I had in mind.
