The Old Wall, painted by Maria Woithofer, is a piece of art that fits with the Reflect principle out of the six Principles from Fuad-Lake’s Slow Design. In this painting, Maria draws a corner of an old house, in which the wall covering was fallen, and the red brick under it reveals in the air. From the red brick show, I feel this painting tells us the history of this building and how it stands still to protect the family from the storm out there. However, the small plant on the wall hints at being alive to the audience. I can sense the indomitable of the house and the family.

The Engage from the six Principles from Fuad-Lake’s Slow Design brings up the old poster Rosie the Riveter from J.Howard Miller in 1943. A woman in a blue working suit shows her biceps by rolling up her sleeves. There is a slogan that says, “We Can Do It!” In the middle 20s, it was simple for women that can take care of the jobs that once belonged to men. It embraces the women and the society at the old time to stand up and live their lives.

The fantasy art will be a crafted sculpture combined with old wooden furniture. This art is made in an old lady shape. With the composition of the old wood, It can reveal each piece of lumber that once was as the function of the wood. Furthermore, I want to reveal the time these woods had been. How they grow from a tiny seed to survive as a perfect tree to craft and, in the end, became fine furniture. By revealing the processing of the furniture, I am trying to engage audiences to think about the resources that humans plunder from nature and reduce the waste that we create.
